An Exercise Physiologist (EP) is a health professional who helps people improve their health and fitness through exercise. They are specially trained to create exercise programs that are safe and effective for individuals with various health issues, injuries, or disabilities.
Both Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists help people use exercise to better manage health conditions by improving their flexibility, strength, endurance, balance, control, and overall fitness levels. When people have chronic muscle and joint conditions like back pain or arthritis, both Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists would be able to help give out suitable exercise programs to help.
Exercise Physiologists are also trained to help people manage conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart problems, diabetes, obesity, respiratory conditions (e.g. asthma, COPD), and osteoporosis.
As Exercise Physiologists will generally not do any hands-on treatment, it's common for people to see a Physiotherapist for any acute conditions, and an Exercise Physiologist for long-term health conditions. Fortunately, we have team members who are qualified as both Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists, so transitioning between the two modalities is seamless.
